VIDEO : Laundry Day

Yes – backpacking and globetrotting is a lot of fun.  You get to see amazing places, go on incredible adventures, and get up close and personal with history.  But it’s not one long vacation.  All the mundane crap that goes along with daily life follows you wherever you go – including, having to do your laundry.

Join me as I wash my first load on the road.  (And if you watch carefully, you’ll see my skivvies. I don’t know if that’s your thing, but they’re there.  No shame.)


Tokyo’s Hipster Neighbourhood – Shimokitazawa

One of the trendiest neighbourhoods in Tokyo is located just one express train stop west of bustling Shibuya Crossing.

New York blog Gothamist calls Shimokitazawa Tokyo’s answer to hipster haven Williamsburg in Brooklyn.  With a quirky mix of shops, bars and restaurants, Shimokita (as the locals call it) is an attractive destination for youth and those looking for an alternative scene.  But with the neighbourhood’s popularity rising, a number of smaller independent shops are giving way to bigger brands setting up to do business.

Riding the Yamanote Line Loop

One of Tokyo’s busiest and most important train lines is a popular way for visitors to the city to get around.  The Yamanote Line is a loop railway which spans over 35km, creating a perimeter around central Tokyo, and connecting some of the city’s biggest urban centres.
